Praying Through Your Pregnancy: An Inspirational Week-by-Week Guide for Moms-to-Be Description
Praying Through Your Pregnancy shows a mother how to provide an early head start for her child through the power of prayer. With fresh spiritual insight, each chapter reveals what is happening with the baby’s development that week, starting with the very first moment of conception, when God begins the creation of either a boy or a girl. Readers will learn how the confidence they place in God affects the healthy development of their precious growing baby, and how to reduce their own stress and anxiety by looking to the Creator. In this interactive guidebook, the author shares excerpts from her pregnancy journal as an encouragement for women to write their own thoughts and feelings, and each chapter ends with a Mother’s Prayer and Scriptures for Meditation.

I thought this would be a perfect book to read as I go through my 3rd pregnancy but I'm only through about half the book and I can't keep reading it because it's not at all what I was expecting or needing. To me it's a watered down, rose colored glasses approach to faith and the power of prayer. I 100% believe in the power of prayer, but the author's approach makes it sound like if you pray for very specific things that you'll get them every time. Sometimes you do and sometimes you don't. My sister has a child with a birth defect and I guarantee there were countless daily prayers offered up during her pregnancy. What my sister will tell you is that by praying through anything in your life that God will give you the provision and strength you need. Now that's a realistic and comforting approach to prayer (her son is a miracle and God has provided in so many amazing ways for him and her family). I think this book has the potential to do serious damage to young or questioning believers who happen to read it during a pregnancy and have something go wrong. It could completely destroy someone's faith because it gives you the impression that God is a genie in a bottle who will grant you any wish you have if you just pray it a certain way. It does have three pages at the end about how sometimes things don't turn out the way you expect which are full of truth and wisdom. I wish the book had been written more from this type of perspective, that no matter what happens in your pregnancy that it's all part of God's great plan. God will always answer your prayers, but it's not necessarily in the way you expect. He gives you what you need but it's His version of what you need. His version is always the perfect way, but sometimes it can be hard to accept at first.
