Imagine yourself at the very end of your life, about to be killed by someone and you regret heavily on what you did when you were younger, so you tell a story to which point in life you explained how and why you changed all that for the better. That is the basic idea writer Ales Kot sets up in ZERO, a spy thriller that is very unique series on the market place that I think people should keep an eye out for.
ZERO VOL.1: AN EMERGENCY collects issues #1 – 5. Edward Zero is an old man with a gun to his head about to be killed in the year 2038, so he recollects to his younger days that date back in 2018 how it all came to this. You see, Zero was an orphan since he was a toddler and has been working for the CIA since he can remember. After so many years working under them in numerous missions, he starts piecing together information that he might have been working on the wrong side with the wrong intentions, which led to his defection around 2018. The thing about working that deep for any and all organizations is, when you want out, it means your death is the only option. And by 2038, it seems times up for Zero…or is it?
ZERO volume 1 consist of each issue taking place in various times spans in Zero’s life, ranging from retrieving classified tech from two android super soldiers right in the middle of a warzone in Europe, to growing up as a child in with other young-soon-to-be-soldiers and assassinating a wanted man for his first mission, to a James Bond-esque covert operation in a high-end terrorist home where he’s building a teleporter, to trying to assassinate a former agent who has a small army under his command, to finally trying piece together his agency to not being what they appear to be.
