I just found this series two weeks ago, and have already fallen in love! Forman does an astounding job of portraying his characters and their growth. Alex began the series unsure of himself, and feeling as though he were either dreaming, or that everyone was seeing him as something much greater than he believed he was. Over time his character advances and he becomes more sure of himself and his capabilities. Instead of a book summary, I would prefer to point out just how amazingly Forman has shown and developed his characters, as well as developing unbelievable storylines that draw in any reader who is a fan of the idea of character growth, the idea of the quest, the actual vividness of an adventure that can lead to daydreaming [and just plain dreaming!], or all of the above. Forman has managed to create a world of his own, a feat not to be taken lightly. I have found that more often than not, current fantasy writers have begun to bring vulgarity and illicit thoughts into their writing as a cheap substitute for real depth and draw, there is no vulgarity nor illicit thought in Forman's books. In this series I see a world of adventures and concepts that could spread into a worldwide rave, such as LOTR or Harry Potter, or Fablehaven. One of my favorite authors, Brian Jaques [may he rest in peace] wrote in a way that not many people do write in, his series of Redwall was based on animal characters, with human traits; a concept I found quite interesting. I believe that Forman may have found a rebirth of a concept in this series, a way to write entirely new concepts in an old genre, and I am thrilled to have read the books. It was the type of book you can't put down, no matter what.
