Philip Coppens' book is a fascinating and mind-boggling overview and critique of some of the more impressive "evidence" that suggests the impact and influence of ancient aliens on mankind's history. The author sagely doesn't buy into everything and anything involved in the debate and therefore doesn't offer his readers both baby and a tub of bathwater. Given such a fantastic premise to play with, many an author under the influence of P.T. Barnum runs with any premise - no matter how absurd or easily disproven - just so long as there is a profit to be had after their published "product" makes it to Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Philip Coppens is discerning and level-headed in his approach to mankind's mysteries. He pans the famous Nazca lines, discounting the popular conception that they are the markings for an ancient airport. He also downplays E.T. participation (at least of an active sort) in the actual construction of the Egyptian Giza complex. One might disagree with his conclusions - but in lending credence to the ordinary explanations first (where warranted) without a rushing recourse to the truly extraordinary, Mr. Coppens does his readership a vast service. He truly does a wonderful job of separating the wheat from the chaff. Carefully weighing the pros and cons, his prime argument and agenda are more aimed at one's keeping an open mind rather than providing definitive conclusions with regards to the central thesis of this book. An open mind is, afterall, a prime requirement in a Universe where growth and evolution seem to form the foundation of its major laws.
This book is, as I've said, an excellent introduction to learning more with regards to one of the profoundest mysteries in human history: are we alone in life's classroom - or are there teachers to guide us?
