There is no denying that Tristan Stone is a powerful man - international hotel mogul, not to mention other ventures and his philanthropic interests. And, not surprisingly, he's always accompanied in public by a beautiful, elegantly dressed woman; but rarely the same woman. When he attends a show at the Anderson gallery, one would assume it's to observe the art, but Mr. Stone, it seems, has other intentions.
Nina's dream is to work in an art gallery, even if means donning a black skirt and white blouse to serve champagne and cocktail weenies to art patrons at the upscale Anderson Gallery, at least she's surrounded by what she loves. Then, surprisingly, the enigmatic Mr. Stone offers Nina the chance of a lifetime - six months working for him selecting art to finish decorating the most coveted suits in each of his prestigious hotel properties. She just has to pass one test. She'd be a fool not to accept the offer. The salary alone is more than she would make in twice that time, so of course she doesn't hesitate to sign on the dotted line, ignoring her instincts to read the fine print. When Mr. Stone begins to reveal the "other aspects" of her employment contract, Nina finds herself in a six-month commitment that goes far beyond selecting art.
Nina is a bright young woman with a lot of spunk. I think that's what drew me to her, and I know that's what draws Tristan to her as well. She's had a past filled with tragedy, loss and disappointment, so it's no wonder she has insecurities that keep her apprehensive - of herself and of Tristan Stone. As for Tristan, well, there's the man the world sees, and then there's the man he wants Nina to see.
Let me get this off my chest first before I go into my actual review. I enjoyed every bit of this book. The only reason why I'm giving it 4.5 moons instead of 5 full moons is because one certain character, ruined it for me. I think she may become the most-hated character for me to ever read...and she's not even technically a villain in the story. K.M. Scott had to throw someone in there that I hated with a passion. She only had a brief time in the story, but she irked me to no end....and I seriously wanted to smack her around and she's fictional. I hate her! How dare she even say anything in the story, when she has been nothing, but negative and she should be supportive of her sister. Grrrrr!!! I am still peeved over what happened at the end with her. ( Enough with the rant )
K.M. Scott gives you a very well-written contemporary romance story that you definitely would expect from this genre...but she also throws in twists and turns that throw you off a bit. She throws in the very secretive billionaire, Tristan, who pops out of no where and starts coming into Nina life and wants her to work for him, but she must sign a contract. She's not sure about this contract, but she ends up signing it any ways, without even reading the fine details of it. Now, Tristan is all about protecting her and not having her alone with out one of guys to protect her. He also does not want to attend any of his events he goes to. This makes Nina question Tristan and he's real motives of her. Is she just sex slave or is she really here to do a job of finding art pieces for his hotels and such? It is infuriating even to me on what is going on with Nina, but I knew after a while that Tristan had a motive behind it all.
