I am near the end of a college class on DW, and I bought this book to supplement our textbook. This Missing Manual is very, very well done. Much more informative than the textbook, IMHO.
This MM certainly contains the basics for beginners, but also callout Notes and Tips that help an intermediate user such as myself. Just a couple of chapters into the book, I have already learned enough to become more proficient and efficient with Dreamweaver as I work on my term project and future "real life" web sites.
As with all Missing Manuals, you don't get a bare-bones, cook-book approach. Some people might prefer "just the steps, Ma'am," but I like the running commentary and explanations in the MM, as well as the little tips and bug alerts.
If you like to understand the whys and wherefores of the software you are working with, and to truly understand what the program can and cannot do, then this is probably the book for you.

The Missing Manual imprint has gained a well-deserved reputation for excellence and this entry only adds to their laurels.
Dreamweaver is a monumental application which grows more complex with each iteration as it mirrors the growing complexity of the World Wide web itself. Developing for the web requires a bevy of technologies and, far more importantly, an understanding of them and the ability to deploy them. Yet, even though this book weighs in at around 950 pages, there is much that is omitted. Server-side programming, for example, gets a meager 22 pages which doesn’t scratch the surface of the subject.
There are many standalone and web-based applications And services that will permit people to quickly design relatively simple web pages and sites. WordPress is a leader in this category and it far from alone.
For industrial strength super-sites, like Amazon, you need many more skills than are covered in this book or can be accomplished with Dreamweaver.
But at the heart of every website is its design and basic structure and in these areas Dreamweaver has no peer. This book is not for the raw beginner, but if you know the basics of HTML, this book will teach you everything you need to know about every major and most minor features of Dreamweaver. In sum, this is a magnificent guide to learning how to use one of the most powerful web design tools on the market.
