When I first heard that Maria was writing this book, I was very curious. I've seen her for years on various news (and entertainment news) programs and have admired her seemingly strong work ethic and drive. I wanted to see how well she would be able to translate that into a book that everyone would be able to relate to. The end result is remarkable.
Since I'm a guy and can't comment on the nearly 70 pages of makeup and fashion, my review and rating are strictly on the 230 pages of everything else. And I mean EVERYTHING else. Maria tackles such topics as organization, health, exercise, relationships, do-it-yourself home improvement, business, and travel. The book had an immediate effect on me. I started reading it right around the time I was getting ready to put together my tax records for last year. Unfortunately, I couldn't locate all of the records I needed. The first chapter in the book is about organization and I realized that if I had Maria's organization I could have saved myself a lot of unnecessary stress. What she was writing about made sense and will help me as I try to organize my spare room where I currently just "store" (ie haphazardly throw) paperwork, boxes, clothing, etc. My favorite chapter, however, was the one on Friends & Family. As someone who had to cut ties with various "friends" recently and have seen a few others drift in and out of my life, I could really relate to a lot of what she was talking about.
The key to getting the most out of this book is to keep an open mind. You might not agree with everything she writes about but I felt that even when I didn't completely agree it made me examine how I approach something and if there are any ways that I can make it better. That is the end goal, to continually improve yourself and your foundation.
