Milady Standard Esthetics: Fundamentals Description
Milady Standard Esthetics Fundamentals, 11th edition, is the essential source for basic esthetics training. This new edition builds upon Milady's strong tradition of providing students and instructors with the best beauty and wellness education tools for their future. The rapidly expanding field of esthetics has taken a dramatic leap forward in the past decade, and this up-to-date text plays a critical role in creating a strong foundation for the esthetics student. Focusing on introductory topics, including history and opportunities in skin care, anatomy and physiology, and infection control and disorders, it lays the groundwork for the future professional to build their knowledge. The reader can then explore the practical skills of a skin care professional, introducing them to the treatment environment, basic facial treatments, hair removal, and the technology likely to be performed in the salon or spa setting.

This book has many errors, and while it may be the best (only?) basic esthetic text for new students, it is often confusing. I have a Masters' degree in Science and in Arts, so it's not like I'm new to school (changing careers), but, some of the chapters leave me scratching my head. I have to get out my old science and chemistry texts. Chapters on chemistry, electricity and physiology are large topics condensed to a few pages and it feels like someone who doesn't know these topics thoroughly is paraphrasing from
another text; I'm often unsure what they're trying to say.
When I read this book, I have to have my laptop and my other books handy. I understand it's an introduction, but I think the basics could be addressed more clearly. And certainly, the errors need to be corrected. It's not awful, there's a lot of good information, but it needs improvement.

I hate this book but it is the book students are forced to learn from to take the state exam whether you like it or not. Also the $90 price is ridiculous for a trade school text book.
This book weighs A TON and you have to drag this book back and forth every day. The weight of this book is absolutely ridiculous.
It is impossible to read this book on the train or bus because of its size and weight. There are huge blatant errors in this book and information is laid out in non-sensical ways. Some of the errors are absolutely ridiculous and are teaching students absolutely incorrect information. Some of the photographs showing skin conditions are incorrectly labeled. Also there is information given in the glossary that differs from what is described in the main text. Spelling errors too....
I read on one of the comments that every book has errors -- umm, no they dont. Not if they are professional and have proper experts writing and editing the books. And doesnt the publisher have basic spell check ? This book is pathetic.
If the publishers of this book had any standards at all of professionalism, they would hire science teachers to proof read this book. Instead, they put out this book replete with multiple glaring errors and just watch the money roll in because this is the book students are FORCED to buy by the schools.
